Arctic Char

My most recent large commission was a large outdoor mosaic piece for the Mayo Local Authority Waters Programme to raise awareness of the Blue Dot sites in Mayo, and in particular, the pristene waters of wonderful Lough Mask, in Tourmakeady, which still has a population of Arctic Char.

 

The mosaic was unveiled Saturday 18 May at Lough Mask by Cathaoirleach of Mayo County Council Cllr Michael Loftus. Dr Fran Igoe of Local Authority Waters Programme gave a presentation on the rare species Arctic Char.

 

The mosaic was made mainly of glass with some ceramic tiles and slate highlights to represent the lake bed. It was finished in my studio by Christmas 2023, but the Irish weather prevented install until the end of April 2024.
