Killasser Parish Jubilee Church Mosaics
During the Catholic Jubilee in 2025, the Killasser Parish Committee asked me to come up with some ideas for a mosaic for each church to commemorate this special event, and it's relevance to the Killasser parish. After some discussion two pieces were agreed, one to represent the opening of the Holy Door in Rome, and one to represent the Celtic cross. Each mosaic would incorporate an image of the female Saint Lasair, from which our parish name derives, together with elements of her legend; The fire, the holy well, and the first church building. From a symbolic viewpoint, the Holy Door takes on a special significance: it is the most powerful sign of the Jubilee, since the ultimate aim of the pilgrim is to pass through it. The opening of the door by the Pope constitutes the official beginning of the Holy Year.
The blessing of the new church mosaics in Callow and Killasser took place on August 15, 2026, during local Mass services. Bishop Doran presided over the blessings, which were held at 10:00 AM in Callow Church and at 12:00 noon in Killasser Church.
I am so grateful to have been selected to make these pieces for the parish.
